1st Deddington Scout Troop is for boys and girls aged 10 ½ to 14. We meet every Thursday, in term time, between 19.30 and 21.30 at The Windmill Centre, Hempton Rd, Deddington.

Scouts are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities as part of their programme. Participation rather than meeting set standards is the key approach, and for the Scout who wants to be recognised for his or her achievements there are a number of Challenge Awards and activity badges.

Joining

Boys and girls can apply to join the troop at 10 ½   many of them will progress from the Cub Pack and we try to move friends together when possible.

All Scouts need to bring a whistle to every meeting.

Currently these are £25 payable at the start of each term.

Activities

Scouts take part in a Balanced Programme that helps them to find out about the world in which they live, encourages them to know their own abilities and the importance of keeping fit, and helps develop their creative talents. It also provides opportunities to explore their own values and personal attitudes.

Being outdoors is what Scouting is all about, and half the programme is given over to taking part in traditional skills, such as camping, survival and cooking, as well as a wider spectrum of adventurous activities, from abseiling to zorbing.

Meeting and working with other troops is also important and we encourage the scouts to take part in any district and county & international events.

Structure & Organisation

A Scout Troop is divided into small groups called Patrols, each headed up by an older Scout called a Patrol Leader, and often with an Assistant Patrol Leader.

Leaders are fully trained & vetted by The Scout Association, and usually consist of a Scout Leader and one or more assistants.

Scouting is about being with friends, as part of a team, and participating fully in the adventure and opportunities of life.
